1:00 pm - 3:00 pm – Farm tour @ Millberg Farms, with seed swap, ice cream, and pie!
Cool down with local ice-cream made with peaches from Tim Miller’s farm and pie from a local institution, The Pie Company. Come and see a unique five-acre fruit orchard, no-irrigation farm stewarded by a farmer with 25 years of experience in Central Texas. Tim will also have some unique, drought tolerant seed varieties to swap that he’s collected over the years. Bring some seeds to swap!

Before the farm tour, come out to support Tim Miller who is marching in the parade as a local farmer. He needs all the support he can get as plans progress to build a highway next to his farm which would affect his status as an organic farm.
Background for Tim and Millberg Farms:
Originally from a farming family in Wisconsin, Tim got a degree in Biology and moved down to Austin where he started working for Caldwell Tree Company in 1984. This position led to a job with Austin Community Gardens (ACG) at Sunshine Community Gardens as Garden Developer. During the nine years in this position, Tim started 24 new community garden sites in and taught at nine AISD schools. In 1989 Tim went to farm a friend’s land in east Austin which began Millberg Farm Certified Organic. In 1991, Tim and his wife purchased a five acre plot of land in Kyle when his wife went to work for Central Texas Medical Center and he simultaneously began developing their land as well as the five acres in Austin and the community gardens he assisted through ACG. In 1994 he left ACG to be a stay home dad and focus on farming 10 acres.
Tim sold at farmers markets in Austin, San Marcos, Buda, Kyle, Westlake, Lakeway but eventually found that the CSA model worked best for him . He began the first CSA in Texas in 1989. Tim enjoys educational and speaking opportunities and has given many workshops and talks over the years, including some radio and TV spots. Tim practices very unique and effective planting and watering methods that he has perfected over the years and is happy to share with others. He practices heirloom seed saving and bulb saving and shares seeds with beginning and continuing farmers as a means of supporting local food production and climate-resistant farming in Central Texas. Currently he is undergoing a major landscape project in the front of his farm and is looking forward to inviting farmers, gardeners, newbies, agriculture enthusiasts, and locavores out to hear about what he’s been up to, socialize, seed swap and enjoy some delicious local foods.
